Couldn't be worse! Feb 08, 2010

Please note that this is the same as the yellow Vivitar 8400, and see that the one-star reviews dominate. I saw the bad reviews, but I gambled and bought this horrible camera. What a joke. We never even got to use it, because after turning it on the screen would go grey after only a few minutes and it would freeze up - couldn't even turn it off. This camera wasn't a lot of money, but we wound up on our tropical vacation with no underwater camera! Please be smarter than me, and notice that the most common ratings for this camera are for only one star. Sure a few people got one that seemed to work, but most people did not, so odds are you won't either! Don't waste your time and money, and don't risk the frustration of not getting what you need for your vacation.

COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY! Mar 11, 2011
By R. A. Englehart I got this camera for shallow water scuba diving (max 30 feet) and at first I thought I had found a great buy. BOY was I WRONG! I've taken this camera out only 5 times, and yesterday, water leaked into the camera and destroyed it. Not to mention, when it DID work, it had such a long delay that I could never get a shot of anything moving! I only gave it 1 star because I wasnt able to give it ZERO!
Vivitar, you should be ashamed of your horrible product. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CAMERA!!

Self-destructed on second dive Nov 30, 2010
By Caribsnorkler This camera worked on one dive, taking fair pictures as long as the zoom was not used. On the second dive, snorkeling on the surface, it filled with water and was ruined. I can not recommend this camera.

Affordable Underwater Camera (point and shoot) May 31, 2011
By E. Estrada

My daughter wanted a waterproof camera to take to the pool and to girls camp. Works great as a point and shoot.
It does not have a optical zoom; told my daughter to set the camera at 8MP on auto mode, leave it there and edit pics on computer later. Camera has worked flawlessly.
My daughter used it for a week at camp and today we went to the pool. Took pictures both underwater and on the water. Uses 2 AA batteries which seem to last quite well.
The Camera is a bit bulky (a deterant to stealing) and there is very noticable lag on the shutter. But for the price, its hard to complain.
SD card slot is behind waterproof door next to battery compartment/cover. Either the batteries need to be removed to remove/install SD card or you have to use a key to push SD Card past the lock/unlock spring. We installed a class 6, 4GB high speed SD Card.
Camera comes with a wrist band with a locking slide to keep camera from being pulled away or dropped. Camera is almost neutral bounancy and sinks slowly (in pool), and highly recommend installing and using wrist strap especially in the ocean where tide/waves can pull camera away.
If you close the waterproof door correctly, I cannot see any reason why the camera would leak.
The camera has a narrow focal angle, so you will have to back up if you want to take a pic of a group (see posted pics). Other than the bulkiness, shutter lag, and narrow focal distance, the camera is just what my daughter wanted; simple to use point and shoot that is waterproof!
