A gem for the price Nov 10, 2010

Just got this yesterday. Took their advice and used the supplied molds and not just plain ice cubes (will try that later). Made one helping of frozen milk and two of plain ice. This morning, I put the block of milk in the hopper and cranked out some BEAUTIFUL shaved (not crushed, not flaked, but beautifully shaved) ice milk. Topped it with some chocolate syrup and just enjoyed the heck out of it. I'm not sure why the other reviewer found it so hard to crank the unit. I'm 61 with mild arthritis in both hands and didn't have any problem. I don't know how much hard use this beauty will take but I figure for $18 I can afford to buy a new one every summer.

I purchased this snow cone maker as a last minute 4th July long weekend treat. Since we didn't plan much for the weekend and didn't want to spend a lot on a last minute idea so I purchased this manually-operate machine instead of the motorized one. As it turns out, it was the BEST little purchase I have ever made. It comes with three nice size ice bowls. Each ice block is big enough to make two good size treats. Don't remember the last time that I had a fresh snow cone for a treat. It really made our long weekend a little extra special.
The reason that I had to write a review was to confirm how great and easy this product is to use. I saw the one-star reviewer and I thought that was because you have to do one extra step that is not on the user manual, in order to make this machine works. That is to expose the "teeth" under the hand crank in order for it to grip the ice like the ice-climber shoes; otherwise, this product "will not work". The teeth are looking like upside-down, yogi nail-bed surface. It has a plastic protective cover for safety. I noticed this feature right away but forgot to remove the protective cover the first time that I used this machine, so I had slight trouble using it much like the one-star reviewer. But after I removed the protective cover and exposed the teeth then it's heavenly after that. It should take a few minutes at most to shave each ice block to make your snow cones. I just love this ice shaver. I have used it everyday during the hot season to make shaved ice for my 4 and 3 year olds. When you use the 3 included ice molds the shaved ice comes out perfectly even. I used regular ice cubes once and it came out lumpy with big chunks. I can get about 3.5 cones worth of shaved ice from each ice mold. I also love that it is easy to use.

This is a good snow cone machine i would recomend trying maple syrup on top of shaved it is tasty anyway, the handle is pretty easy to use with ice cubes but not super easy
i still have to try the icemoldamajigers
i would recomand this item

Many years ago i had a similar one like this, from another maker, that one you had to use real muscle power, and lots of effort to make it work, so I junked that one, and decided now that I had three little ones, and its summer, that it was time for another snow cone maker, was really debating on either getting another hand cranked one, or power operated one, almost bought the electric one, but decided that water and electricity dont go together, and that I didnt want a bunch of parts to deal with, so I decided to give this one a shot, and hay I liked the cool color of blue, I was impressed that you got three bowls, and with lids, a bonus, I didnt even read the bocklet that came with it, it was pretty obvious what to do, filled the three bowls of water, put on the lids, frooze, I took one bowl out of the freezer, the ice popped out in a matter of moments, stuck that into the machine, screwed on the crank lid, and started to turn the crank, wow, what was happening, I didnt even have to put any effort whatsoever, it just turned very easily with just the slightest push!! amazing, soo easy and fast, in a matter of mear seconds/minutes i had filled three cups of nice fluffy snow from just the one ice block!!infact this was soo easy, my 4 year old could do this!, the kids loved this, and were very happy with their snow cones, hurray! smiles all the way around, the other reveiwer that had trouble operating this, I'm thinking didnt screw the crank lid on properly, I cant believe what a bargain this is, so easy and perfect, love!!
