Cheap Pilates; it works. Feb 15, 2012

I have done "rehab pilates" for years at a great clinic, but when I saw this AFFORDABLE reformer, I jumped on it. While some clubs charge only 30 a session, others ask 200.00!!!
The machine is NOT like the ones at the club. The ropes are cheap, the loops dig into your legs or have a cheap velcro cover thing, the foot part is straight, not bent, not adjustable.
The main problem I have is the CORDS are TOO weak. I have 4 bungee cords (not metal springs) and I am using 3 now, having started at 2. Also, the machine is a bit SHORT, and would not accomodate anyone over about 6 foot.
The bars holding the ropes are a bit low on mine--I see this one has the rope on the floor...not ideal. All the parts are cheap--the padding is thin, the shoulder thingies are not padded enough, I think the ropes and cords will break rather quickly.
IT IS HEAVY--unfolding it kills my back, lifting it..I keep it leaned against the wall, but it is still heavy. Oh, and um there is no beautiful wood on this one like on the 5000 dollar model, ha ha.
THE GOOD: The machine is affordable, it works, and if you do the exercises regularly, you will see your body change shape even though you feel that you are barely exercising. Provided you suck in your tummy on every exercise...core is CORE!!!
The Jumping attachment is GREAT and I love it. I have back and knee injuries preventing me from running or jumping but I can jump on the trampoline thing, go high against the shoulder thing, and back---far superior to a mini tramp except for balance.
The video that accompanies is not great--I would get the one amazon sells which shows dancers with perfect posture and is more like the "classic pilates" I have been taught. If you like the fast or cardio pilates popularized by "windsor pilates" well this tape may be more for you. Neither had the detail needed to achieve perfect form, without which you do not turn into a perfectly sculpted person!

I love Pilates reformer classes, but they are so expensive. This product costs less than 10 classes. It comes with a video that helps beginners use the equipment and a workout video. It was easy to put together, very little that needed to be done. It folds up easily and fits under my bed, this is the reason that I purchased this model. This feature made my husband happy. I use it regularly. Pilates on the reformer offers no/low impact and great strengthening of the core. There is a natural flow, very much like yoga. I have had the product for 3 weeks and it seems very durable. I also purchased the rebounder which provides a great heart pumping work out. This model has 3 cords instead of 4, but it looks like stonger cords can be added. The platform body is not very wide,not a problem for me, but should be checked to see if it will work for you. I give this 5 stars. I love it!
