Very Cheap Price for Very Cheap Equipment Feb 10, 2012
By Joshua You really get what you pay for here. I bought two of these for under 200 dollars new. They shiped fast and came in a paper-thin cardboard box and were only supported on the edges by the same material, albiet not well. Hence, one of the speaker grills were dented in. I was able to fix this and didn't knock any stars because of this.
Sound quality is poor. There is very, very little bottom end. If you try to push the bottom end with eq, more power, etc. It will distort...well flat out go splat. When they give a wattage, expect half of the RMS wattage and the RMS wattage to be the peak. The highs aren't bad unless you push the speakers to their claimed wattage. Then they too distort. Amplification was not a problem for me, I was using QSC equipment with a Yamaha board. Within one month of use, the tweeter on one of the speakers blew. I called them to get a repair, and you have to ship it back to them and send a money order for $15. (Heck, I almost paid that much for the whole speaker!) So service sucks to say the least...mind you these were not even a month old and still under warranty.
Cabinet design is mediocre. The covering is thin and scuffs easy. After a month of traveling, and taking pretty good care of them, even the smallest bump will leave a mark and tear the covering. The wood is cheap MDF which wouldn't have been bad if the covering had some resistance. The feet that they give you to attach are cheap as well. They broke off after only two gigs. It wasn't the screws, it was the actual feet that broke. The grills dent easily but you can pop them back into place.
So all in all, you can go to Home Depot, Lowes, or some other hardware store and fashion yourself a cabinet and it will likely be better than this one for less money. I won't buy these again. Now Pyle's AMPs are another story, they seem pretty good. I bought two of these for our practice room and they work well. Again, wattage is overstated but for the price it's a great deal.
Hope this helps. If you're looking for monitors, go for the Peavy or Yamaha or any other name brand. Spend the extra 50 or 100 bucks and you will be far, far happier.
Poor quality Jan 19, 2012
By Joe Rego Arrived damaged. The speaker/magnet part of the 15" horn was broken off and loose inside of the box. The vinyl on the box was comming up on several parts. The overall quality was poor.
