I had the Nesco with the porcelain cookwell for at least 15 years. Replaced it with this non-stick and absolutely love it. The Nesco saves lots of time & doesn't heat up the kitchen. I would never be without one! I use it like my oven but without all the heat! Have fixed chicken, pork loins, pot roasts, ham, etc in my Nesco & have never been disappointed. It usually cuts the baking time also compared with an oven. Absolutely the best kitchen appliance that I have!

I originally purchased this as a gift for my daughter. During several visits with her and her family of 3 we used the roaster oven and always got terrific results. Everything she and I cooked in the Nesco came out fabulous and did not require alot of attention or fuss. It was so impressive I purchased another as a wedding gift.
I did not realize it is also a slowcooker/crockpot when I originally purchased this for my DD. I went to youtube and looked at the videos and also went to the Nesco website for more information on cooking with this Roaster oven. I was surprised at the range of uses for the cooker. This item is a boon for a fulltime rver such as myself.
The Roaster oven can bake on a countertop which provides a second oven. On the low setting it functions as a slowcooker/crockpot. It can also be used on a table top outdoors. I do place my Range Kleen SM1720SWR Sm1720Swr- 17''X 20'' Silverwave Counter Mat underneath the unit ( my DD does likewise) as it does produce heat on the bottom. The sides of the unit get hot also so use a potholder when handling. The cooker is still very easy to take to get-togethers.
I ordered the non-stick cookwell for my daughter, but a porcelain cookwell is available. The lid also comes in glass or metal.
The only hold back on getting one for myself was the size. I find 6 qts. to be too large for my slowcooker needs and somewhat large for my baking needs for the two of us. The performance reviews for the Nesco 4805-12 5-Quart Electric Roaster, Red are mixed. This unit still seemed large for my slowcooker/crockpot need since when using as a slowcooker the manufacturer recommends it be at least 1/2 full. Ebay to the rescue!! I found rectangular shaped 4 qt. vintage models available plus shipping cost for less than $[...] with all the accessories included (instruction manual, rack, cookbook). One white and one blue. They may not be as spiffy as the red 5 qt or the Stainless 6 qt., but they perform beautifully!!! The nonstick inner cookwell for the 4 qt. model is still available at the Nesco website if you desire a second and/or different finish than what the ebay seller is offering.
The Nesco Roaster oven is the best thing I have found for slowcooking in recent years. It does not get as hot as many of the newer slowcooker/crockpots which gives the vegetables a wonderful texture and color. Much better than the newer slowcookers on the market (I have found this to be true for the new 6 qt model as well as the vintage 4 qt). The 4 qt accomodates a chicken, beef/ pork roast or ham beautifully. The roasted meats come our succulent and tender. When using the roasting settings the meats are slow roasted not stewed/steamed as in the slow cooker temperature setting. The roasted meats are not quite as brown as when roasted in a conventional oven , but the metal cookwell can be placed in the conventional oven at the end of the cooking time for 20 minutes or so for more browning if desired. This works out great during holidays and for get-togethers since the meat can be slow roasting while the conventional stove and oven are used for other meal prep.
I like the fact that the inner cookwell is metal as well as the lid . This reduces the risk of breakage as well as reduces the weight. The cookwell is removed easily for clean up.
My 2-in1 Slow Cooker has been given away since I can slowcook 2 to 4 quarts in the Nesco as well as roast and bake. The Nesco site has teriffic recipes for slowcooking, side dishes, main dishes, casseroles, desserts, and roasting meats in addition to the recipes that come with the cooker. The site still offers recipes for the 4 qt as well as the newer 5 qt and larger models.
This item performs beyond expectations and works well for the rver, empty nester, dorm room, small apartment dweller as well as just a optional cooking/serving unit for the conventional household.

This product came highly recommended by a friend and it is great for everyday use.
I have an 18 qt. roaster oven for Holiday turkey/ham but this keeps my FL kitchen cool in the summer.
Used for roasting 5 lb chicken; only 1 1/4 hrs. with carrots and potatoes. Set it up in my screened in porch. Have also cooked country style pork ribs.....delicious.
Anxious to try more recipes.
Clean up is great as I purchased the "coated" model!
Highly recommend.......

I had my previous Nesco roaster for many years and absolutely loved it. It's not something I use everyday, but it does make the most delicious ribs and pot roast. However, over time it got that worn look and thought it was time for a new one. After my second or third use of the new version, the teflon coating started to bubble and lift from the bottom and side of the cookwell. I called Amazon expecting an offer to replace the cookwell. I was told there was nothing they could do except refer me to the manufacturer. I called the manufacturer, who informed me that they would replace the cookwell. However, I would have to return the damaged one AT MY EXPENSE by some service that would give me a receipt such as FedEx or UPS and have insurance covering it. Since I no longer had the box I would have had to also pay for a box at the UPS store. All in all it would have cost more to ship it back to the manufacturer than to buy a new one. Purchasing a new cookwell would have been cheaper than sending the damaged one back for replacement.
My previous Nesco lasted for over 15 years. The cookwell in this new one was a piece of crap. I also thought Amazon stood behind the products they sold, but the customer service rep I spoke to was totally unconcerned with my problem and acted like she could not care less about my call. I guess I was wrong about Amazon being concerned with satisfied customers.

BUYER BEWARE! The Manufacturers instructions BEFORE using "You must "SMOKE OUT" your NESCO Roaster Oven before cooking in it"!!!!! It is normal FOR SMOKE TO APPEAR DURING THE "smoke out" process
1. Place roaster oven on a heat resistant surface in a well ventilated are (Garage, Carport, etc.)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Remove the cookwell and cover.
3 Set temperature control to MAX setting and allow your roaster to 'SMOKE OUT" for ONE HOUR!!!
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!! I live in an Apt and do not have a garage or carport!!! Where am I suppose to "SMOKE OUT" this roaster oven? I have had many slow cookers and roaster ovens in my life and NEVER had to "smoke out" one!! I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT THIS ROASTER IF I HAD KNOWN YOU HAD TO "SMOKE OUT" THE OVEN!! Why can't they do a "SMOKE OUT" at the factory before shipping to a customer?
