5Essential for Sharpening  Sep 22, 2010
By Wok King
I sharpen our own kitchen knives using various stones and find that honing oil such as Lansk Nathan's to greatly assist in the sharpening process, rather than using, water for example as a wetting agent. It helps keep the metal bits from adhering to the stone, causing build up that can be frustrating to remove. I haven't found a good way to rinse off the residue without dirtying the sink making clean up messy and somewhat annoying. I may not be doing something properly in the process, so if any sharpening experts read this, they can help me by commenting.

5honing oil  Dec 23, 2010

If you are using an "Arkansas" type stone - this oil is a must for you. Works well, coats the stone easily and lasts. Not as messy as other oils and wipes clean quickly leaving the stone ready for the next use without clogging.

I like how I can use the oil for my knife sharpening stones but can also apply it directly to the hinges on my knives. The second application can get a little messy but it works great!

5Lansky Nathan's Honing Oil  Jan 26, 2011
By Twilight Vash "Vash"
Thanks for the recommendation Amazon. Lansky Nathan's Honing Oil was linked when i was buying the sharping stone set from the address below.

Smith's TRI-6 Arkansas TRI-HONE Sharpening Stones System.

Lansky Nathan's Honing Oil works great with the stones. Be sparing with this oil; a little goes a long way. The "Course" stone seemed to take slightly more oil. try not to use too much.
