It would be perfect if.... Sep 15, 2010
By tnb_inpt We purchased the Koolatron P25 for a 3000 mile road trip in Aug-Sept 2010. We had medicines to keep in it as well as the desire not to deal with ice and melt for 2 weeks. It's size was perfect to fit in the foot-well behind either driver or passenger seats without interfering with the seats adjustments (in a VW Passat sedan). We were able to keep just the right amount of food and liquids in it for daily lunches and snacks while on the road. I read other user's reviews of the product before purchasing and everything that was stated came to be our experiences with it as well. The handle is awkward. It doesn't seem that it would take rocket science for Koolatron to fix it so the lid function as well as the power cord placement would not be so difficult to manipulate without 3 hands and a tail. I also baught the power adapter so I could plug it into the house power for pre-cooling as well as use in hotel rooms or whenever we were not in the car - that worked perfectly. All things considered, we are glad we purchased it because the trip was much easier with it along. So, my plea to Koolatron - please fix these awkward handle/lid/powercord placement issues and you will have a "5" review every time and you will sell a couple million of these babies.

Great product Nov 29, 2008
By W. Priddy
"Child of Yah"
We used our new Koolatron on a 10 day camping trip - no more ice! What a great product. In the car and in the cabin - kept everything cold. We are going to purchase another one prior to our next trip - one for drinks and one for food. It only iced up on us one time, when the humidity was high and we had some foods with liquids - not sealed tight enough. Important to keep the inside of the cooler dry.

just the right size Nov 10, 2009
By J. Huss The P25 is a good cooler for beverages and small items. It does tend to be top heavy (where the cooling unit is located). I would recommend the P27 as it is just a little bigger, wider, and more balanced. The P27 has a heat/cool function, which the P25 does not. I have kept the P25 as I didn't want to go through the hassle of a return. Amazon is great to deal with, however. Jim

A Quality Electric Cooler Jul 13, 2007
By Dr. Stephen M. Bank The electric cooler was bought as a gift for my son and daughter-in-law and their large family. They make numerous automobile trips and the cooler allows them to bring food, drinks and medicines(when necessary) with him without having to worry about where they may have to stop. They seem very pleased with the cooler and I was pleased with the speed of the processing of my order. Steve Bank

Made the hot summer more enjoyable! Aug 16, 2011
By Ali Julia This Koolatron unit was purchased for long weekend trips to keep beverages and lunches cold during the hot summer trips. Overall, the cooler met our expectations. It takes a little while for it to get cool, but when we start the trips with an icepack in the cooler it works very well. The lid is a bit heavy and awkward to maneuver, so we found it is easier to deal with when the cooler travels in the back seat (strap in with a seat belt) rather than on the floor behind the seat. See attached photo as illustration.
We did not buy the pricey AC charger is specificity made by Koolatron Koolatron Multi-Purpose Adapter 110AC to 12 Volts DC ( Model AC-15), we thought we could use a cheap one from Radio Shack. But that was a mistake. The Radio Shack one was not powerful enough to handle Koolatron and immediate shut off. We wanted to pre-cool Koolatron before leaving home before the trips and use it in the hotel room when needed.
The Radio Shack splitter for the cigarette lighter did work very well and allowed us to plug in all the gadgets that we travel with as well as give us extra cord length so the cooler can be easily moved around.
I liked
1) The size is just right. 2) With an assist of an ice pack the cooler stayed cold all day, even when we left it unplugged for 4 hours during 98F hot day. 3) The unit is very quiet, we could barely hear it while riding in the car
I did not like
1) The lid is a bit cumbersome
How does this cooler work?
The cooler is small and light because it uses thermoelectric refrigeration as the cooling method. In 1834 Jean Peltier noticed that when electrical current is applied to the junction of two different metals the heat is removed from one of the metals and transferred to the other. This is the main principal of thermoelectric cooling (and known as Peltier effect). The cooling unit is constructed from tiny metal cubes made from different metals. As electricity passes through the junctions between the cubes the heat is transferred and a fan vents the heat outside. No chemicals and no compressors! Very nice!
Overall, we are pleased with the cooler. Attached is a photo of the cooler in the car.
