2Broken. Improvised and repaired it ourselves.  Jun 09, 2011
By momoflars
I knew from the get go it would be tedious to put together...that's not so much the issue I had. Do be prepared, however, to spend hours on it (took us 9 total) and you'll need more than one person to get it done. It came in 3 big heavy boxes.

Once we began the process of putting it together and got to the part of the big front face piece and big back face piece, they both had issues across the whole bottom. Starting up from the bottom of it, the part that kinda looks like a baseboard...that part was cracked all the way across on the front face piece. The back face piece was completely broken all the way across...looked like it was flapping attached by hardly anything. It looked as though it had been glued to begin with. Instead of returning it, we decided to just reinforce it and repair it ourselves. We had family coming in from out of town and needed it done. We had to purchase a really big clamp ($35), some Gorilla super glue ($6), and 2 metal brackets ($5) which ended up requiring 2 trips to Home Depot ($7 in gas money) throughout the process.

The next day, we were able to move on with assembly. Once we completed assembly, one of the cabinet doors wouldn't shut. It would bang into the middle wood piece between the doors. We double checked our assembly (yes, we did follow the directions and assembled everything in the proper order). We couldn't decide if the hinges weren't set quite right or if there was a problem with the design, or what. Whatever it was, the middle wood piece between the doors wasn't securely staying in the middle. I can only describe it as "it had some sway room." The fix we went with only required 2 toothpicks. We used those as a shim between the middle piece of wood and the metal piece that holds the magnet that secures the cabinet. That worked like a charm.

It's pretty to look at. Had to use black magic marker across the whole width of the flappy piece we repaired along the bottom. I really feel the price we paid was high for the what we got. We picked the lesser of 2 evils. It would've been much harder to disassemble all that we had put together already and put it back in the boxes plus the hassle of doing the return and waiting on a new one (when the new one could've still had the same design flaws), than it would to fix it ourselves. We needed an island in the kitchen for more storage and working counter space. It serves it's purpose. Thank goodness patience isn't scarce in our house.

5Exceptional Quality  Apr 17, 2011
By Natalia
Excellent packaging with no damages. Easy to read instructions and engineered to fit together perfectly. Flawless paint application. The wood and granite is what you would expect -- solid and heavy. Strongly recommend having the base unit in place before positioning top. Very high quality piece.
