Exceptional Blender and a great price for the quality Sep 23, 2010

I have had this blender for 2 1/2 years now and it still works excellent. I have been able to make the creamiest smoothies with it. For example, I can blend strawberries, blueberries, and bananas together so well, that there are no longer any seeds or grainy texture present. I will definitely purchase this blender again if I need a new one in the future.

Milkshake heaven! Dec 24, 2009

I've had this blender about 3 weeks and it's running fine. I don't think all the buttons make much difference in speed/torque but it blends well and that's what I bought it to do. I haven't tried blending ice yet but my neighbor's unit blends it very well. That's why I bought this model. I figured if her's chopped ice then it ought to handle ice cream, milk and chocolate OK too. So far I'm not disappointed.
I had a $150 Waring (Copper base) blender that fell apart after several months of use so I thought I'd give a cheaper name/model a chance.

Very pleased Apr 01, 2010

We wanted a large light weight blender that we could put in the diswasher. This product has fit the bill. We have had no leakage problems that some have written about. We are very pleased with this Hamilton Beach blender. Dr. Carl

Good for smoothie May 21, 2009

It seems that there are only two speeds, namely, the HI and LOW. The other functions seem the same when you use them. It is good for making smoothie. It is easy to clean.

OK for smoothies, not as good as my Oster Feb 20, 2011
By Nventor I bought this blender for use in my elderly mother's kitchen to make her smoothies instead of having to use the 14-speed Oster blender in my kitchen upstairs. Despite the numerous strongly positive reviews, I have to say that I'm not terribly impressed with this Hamilton Beach blender and don't believe that it is as good as my Oster, which I bought at Wal-Mart for about the same price. (Amazon also has a comparable Oster model at a similar price Oster 14 Speed Blender). To me the telltale difference is when I put my three ice cubes into the smoothie through the center of the cap while the blades are spinning (not trying for a slushy texture with the ice, just a bit of a chill and a little more volume). The Oster doesn't even slow down whereas the HB emits some screeching noises (presumably) from the drive belt slipping, and it takes the HB much longer than the Oster to completely disintegrate the ice cubes. This is odd, too, because the HB specs a 500-watt motor vs. the Oster 450-watt, but I'm guessing that the difference is in the drive mechanism, for example if the Oster has a direct drive vs the HB belt drive. (The description on Amazon for the Oster blender does talk about "all-metal" drive.) Like other reviewers, I also noticed a slight burning odor the first few uses, which I attribute to the belt "wearing in", whereas the Oster had no such odor--probably again because it doesn't use a belted drive mechanism.
So, based on my experience, I would recommend going with an Oster over this Hamilton Beach.
