This new Katana Kit is of the highest quaility. The blade is made of iron wrap 30 high carbon steel which made layer by layer to create the strongest blade. It is full tang razor-sharp edge and fully combat ready. The scabbard is black and it is made of high quality lacquered wood with piano finish. The fittings are done in antiqued black iron. For those interested in an economical katana that can stand the rigors of heavy cutting this is an excellent choice.

2Some details  Mar 18, 2008
By A. Gift For You "Austin"
The description says that the katana is very sharp, which is not true. If you swung it full speed at a person's arm, you may draw blood, but if you run your thumb along its edge, no cut.

It appears to be made of carbon steel, as per the description. The tempering is not good, if this blade bent at all it would snap completley.

It is full tang, and the pieces fit together very well.

Overall, if you're looking for a katana that can cut, this one is not for you, I have sharpened mine to the best of my abilities and at best it rips paper apart, rather than cutting it.

3Truely awefull  Apr 09, 2010
By Sean Michael Long
To start with the sword was stuck in the saya,it wasnt quite carved out enough at the mouth, fixed that(10min). The hama is completly fake, china is stamped deep in the blade, blade is sharp but not consistant, most of this can be fixed. It took some work to get the fittings in place(which are actually suprisingly nice) for a full sized full tang blade one mekugi peg will not suffice(they give you two but the tsuka only has one hole).Cosmetically the sword is awefull, for training purposes the sword is worse. If you are looking for a sword with weight all in the tip this sword is for you(but if you like that, you know nothing about swordmanship)Here is why I gave it three stars, the sword is the worst possible training sword, but in being so unbalanced it forces you to truly focus on your technique, once you pick up your normal iaito the felling is so smooth and fluid. If you are a begginer this sword is only good enough to hang on a wall, if experienced in eishin-ryu iaijutsu or other similar sword arts this sword is a helpfull challenge in training.

4Not bad for a cheap katana  May 07, 2009
By Nathan Dubry "Nathan DuBry"
Katana went together very well and appears fairly stout, it is reassuring that it has a full tang. The blade was quite dull and needed a good bit of sharpening before the sword was useable. I sanded the fake hamon off and pollished the rest of the blade. the blade is made out of decent metal, it's not stamped on it but it keeps a sharp edge and it does not appear to be stainless (just keep it well oiled)

4"almost" great  Mar 23, 2009
By serval
This sword comes unassembled, with a nice sword bag.
The scabbard looks almost like a period one, and has the proper ribbons,
The furniture (tsuba. menuki etc) are finely detailed, with a dragon motif. They are cast of nonferrous alloy plated with copper, and painted black. If you carefully remove the casting ridges, and most of the paint using fine steel wool, and apply wax, the pieces take a nice old bronze look.
The handle is covered with white plastic "rayshark skin" which, when suitably "antiqued" looks very authentic too.Unfortunately I could not push the tang more than three inches into the handle cavity. It took several hours of patient reaming to do the job - and that was a tight fit.
The blade is very correctly shaped, and has an elegantly flowing "temper line". It is made of good carbon steel ( I could not tell if it is bimetallic-folded as advertised) and is polished to a mirror finish. I just wish they had not stamped " CHINA " so deeply on the side of it, in the most visible place.

4nice katana for the price  Apr 19, 2008
By J. Daniel
nice katana for the price. all the parts fit well. not sharp but, doesn't take much to put a good sharp edge on it. I do recommend this as a 1st katana as far as practical use goes. As i stated it isn't too difficult to put an edge on this katana as long as you have some notion as to how to actually sharpen a blade... It's not as if this is a hand forged blade that was sharpened and polished by someone who has finished a 10 year apprenticeship in Japan... Nice katana for the price........
