It's the size of a Baseball Jul 01, 2009
By Gradey Ann I wasn't aware that this fishbowl was the size of an orange or baseball. The description does in fact say 15 ounces, which now makes sense. I purchased it for one of my cats who loved to terrorize my beta (when he was alive).
I put batteries in it and filled it with spring water (not the distilled water that is recommended). I didn't put the little rocks in the bowl. It makes a low humming sound and when the fish "swim" into each other they make a crashing noise. The noise got my kitty's attention more than the fish swimming. I placed him in front of the bowl and he stuck his paw in the water...his paw is just about the size of the opening in the fish bowl. I'll have to supervise him with the fish bowl because I'm afraid he may get his face (not his head) stuck in the bowl.
It's of good quality but I don't see it being appropriate for a small child (tiny pieces) or a larger child for that matter (sheer boredom). Adults who want a conversation piece on their desks would probably be the customer base for this product. The big orange fish basically twirls in a circle while the blue fish bounces around until it crashes into the orange fish. No one could possibly think the fish are real, good effort though.
My other cats sniffed it and then walked away. :( I would never pay more than the $12 I spent on it.

A Functional Toy May 24, 2011
By Fave13 As one reviewer mentioned, this toy is indeed the size of a baseball, so it is rather small in size. However, I have come to find that this pretend fish bowl is rather functional and really an ingenious idea. A little bit of detergent and faucet water and you have 2 cute little nemos swimming around. No maintenance whatsoever and very cute!! My 6-yr old loves it and likes to keep it by her bedside at night and watch it in the dark at times. Caution: It was a bit challenging to open the battery compartment since the screw is soooo tiny that it is easy to strip.

Love it at work. Jun 27, 2010

I got this for Christmas over 2 years ago. Some people may think it's a cheap thing but I have had this on my desktop at work everyday for over 2 years and is just now burned out, not bad for a "cheap" toy. Still today, I have a new one-different manufacturer that isn't as good but has a light, I get people coming by my desk and asking if the fish are real.
Whenever I get bored watching my computer screen, I look at my fish. Makes the boring workday go a little bit faster for that short period of time.

Entertaining Jan 13, 2009
By Estee Sherman I bought this for my grandson to put on his night stand. He has trouble falling asleep. This keeps him entertained while he tries to relax and fall asleep. He told me it makes him happy to watch the fish swimming.

Excellent product Aug 31, 2009

I bought this since my 4 yr old always wanted to have an aquarium at home. I did not want to go through the hassle of maintaining a real aquarium - cleaning, replacing fishes since the real ones tend to die quite often. We had one when we were kids !
My daughter enjoys watching it, and though it cant be compared to real aquarium, it just serves our purpose for now !
