"Things that make you go 'Hmmmm'"
I pre-ordered this through Broderbund. Somewhat satisfied and dissatisfied with it's predecessor I decided I would take a chance. My evaluation isn't about the software because I won't put the disk in my Mac. Why? I was sent a cheaply created (burned) copy of the program with a homemade adhesive label. I'd expect this from a new software company but Broderbund??? Tacky and potentially damaging to your machine. It's stupid to put disks with adhesive labels in your computers and cd players.
After arguing for 40 minutes and threatening a fraud alert with the BBB they finally agreed to credit me for the disk, shipping and let me keep the disk because they wouldn't pay for return shipping. Will it be the same way with Amazon? I'm not sure. I do know that the supervisor told me there are no boxes for the product even though there is one pictured here AND on Broderbund's site. I'd investigate first unless you're OK with adhesive labels.
***UPDATE**** I had to look at this product. If you look at the software product just before they released this one (PrintMaster Platinum 2.0) you'll see that people didn't have the greatest opinion of it. I gave it a 3. I think they whipped this one out to 'fix' the fatal issues of 2.0. Well, "Back to the drawing board Broderbund!"
***The labels got slightly better. SLIGHTLY. You still have to literally copy and paste your address for every single cell. No Find/Replace. Very time consuming.
***The calendar is basically a graphic. Yes, you choose the year or the month depending on whether you are doing an annual or monthly. However you have no way to type items into a cell/day. With Print Shop you can. An improvement but like the labels, a very SLIGHT improvement.
****EVERYTHING IS ONLINE. People complained about everything being installed and killing your hard drive but now you have to be able to access the Internet if you want to create anything. Yes, this is normal for print software but at least you get some on the disk or installed. But with this one it looks like you need the Internet for everything. Let's put it this way. Everything I tried to find kept needing the Internet. Maybe the clipart is on the disk but the projects don't appear to be. Very sad.
****Tackiness: I'm a teacher and I'm picking about spelling. I'm adding a graphic that shows how poorly they were at Broderbund when it came to looking at things before releasing this 'burned' disk. They spelled 'coming' as 'comming.'
****Going back to labels I'm also including a graphic of a sheet of labels aimed at Halloween. First the design has graphics all over the sheet. Next they have the instructions mixed within the labels themselves. Huh? It's a bunch of gobbledygook.
If you're interested in this product look at 2.0 but I'm still very glad I got my money back. Big, big, big disappointment. It keeps it's 1 because they did a shoddy job 'fixing' up a piece of software that they screwed up in the first place. So not worth $40.00! Back to Print Shop for me and praying I can find a good one for my Mac.
*****UPDATE***** I wanted to create business cards/behavior punchcards (yeah, I didn't fully take it off) and the program printed some crazy enlarged business card that had the right side of it printed on the left side and vice-verce. I have NEVER seen a printing program this messed up!!!

After working with this program for a few days, I uninstalled it. I have used printmaster for many years, but this version is unacceptable. I e-mailed Broderbund, but never received a response. Older versions were easy to use, and I thought this one would also be a good product. It isn't!

I used a Printmaster Gold Program for many, many years and really enjoyed it. Sadly my new computer had Windows 7 and my Printmaster Gold program was so old it would not work on my new computer. I decided to stick with Printmaster because I got so much use out of my previous program.
I ordered Printmaster Platinum 2010 right from the company. It arrived today and after checking it out and playing with it for several hours I must say that I am VERY disappointed with this version. The art work that came on it is mostly photo style and while it is pretty user-friendly, I still have not yet found out how to do some of the things on this version that I used to do on the older one.
I really wish that I could find a version of Printmaster Gold that was like the version I had and would work on my computer. I have serious doubts that I will get even 1/8 of the use with this new version that I got with the older Gold version. I made cards, labels, signs, printed envelopes, and so many other things with that older program. I even found it's clip art attractive and useful. I so enjoyed personalizing photos on cards and adding clip art hats and other items to them.
Some might like this particular version but I feel like it was a quickly put together version and little effort was put into including a good variety of art work.
I prefer to use my own photos in my projects and use the Printmaster clip art to enhance and personalize them. The Platinum 2010 version has LOADS of photos of other people along with some art work.....which will be of little (if any) use to me.
Addition: With the hoilday season quickly approaching I discovered another problem with the Printmaster 2011. I recently had to print some lables....and my needing only one shipping lable created a problem. I can't figure out how to print just one!
I used to be able to select the number of lables I wanted the Printmaster program to print. I have yet to find out how to do that with Printmaster 2011. I do not need a whole sheet of the same shipping lable and hate to waste the ink and lable blanks.

(Windows 7) After installing the program would immediately launch and work fine, but after closing it down and then double clicking the icon it would fail. It looked like it was trying to get at tables in the hard drive. It turns out that administrative rights are needed when launching from the other user accounts. You can right click the icon and select Run as administrator but you have to do that every time. The best way is to right click the icon, select Troubleshoot compatibility, Troubleshoot Program, check the box "The program requires additional permissions". After that when you double click the icon a window pops up asking for the admin password, which gives permission to access the hard drive. Then the program starts as it should. You have to enter the password every time you launch the program, but since I don't use a password for admin I just have to click Ok.
My disc was bought at (large electronics store). The disc did not have a cheesy label like the other reviewer's copy. It was a screen printed install disc, in a box like the picture. The disc loaded over 2gig onto the hard drive and then the disc is not needed to run the program- it was for install only. Also included was a 112pg user manual.
Like the teacher reviewer I also am coming from PrintMaster Gold 16. My wife used it A LOT for teaching- making fun monthly calendars and newsletters. Sadly the old one didn't work on new Windows 7 computer. Actually caused a lot of issues until I uninstalled everything from that day. After she uses the new 2011 Platinum I'll update the review.
***UPDATED*** Let me preface this with the fact that I studied the user manual like I was going to be tested. The creation of a newsletter went fine until trying to add clip art. After selecting the thumbnail of desired clip art and clicking the button to add it an error message pops up. I can't get any of the clip art to work. I went to the support site and pasted in the error message w/description and I have not received a response- it has been several weeks. Another complaint was about the text alignment choices. No option for justified (like a newspaper column). Only L, R, and Center. The calendar portion of the program was torture- simple repeating text boxes had to be created again & again rather than a simple copy/paste. Also could not get clip art into the calendar.

I have used many versions of Printmaster over the years. This new version is so difficult to use. Save your money. This will be the last Printmaster I will purchase. You can not easily search for clip art or templates of already made cards. I was unable to adjust clip art after a text box was placed on a blank page.
