By R. Hany It is great for the kids. The only negative thing is that you need to insert the CD everytime you need to use it. For kids, this is bad as they keep scratching the CDs..So make copies.

Just what the teacher/mom ordered Apr 12, 2010

I ordered this software a few days ago and was surprised to find it in our mailbox already. Today we had some phonics scheduled anyway, so I thought maybe this would make a good warm up for my 5 year old Kindergartner (homeschooled through K12 public online school.) It took a bit of convincing for about 2-3 minutes to keep my son around long enough to try this, but once he gave it a go he was hooked and I actually had to kick him off it so we could start some of our required lessons. I really do feel like he was more engaged than he has EVER been in our school phonics lessons and he may have even learned more in 30 minutes with this program than I can teach him in a hour of one on one because this program actually held his interest and attention FAR more than phonics tiles, workbooks, flashcards or anything else we have tried. I think my child realized he was learning but was having fun so he was willing, and this coming from a child who whines and cries when its time for school and refuses to sit still for lessons. The DVD is a little young for him, but its perfect for my 3 year old who is still learning his letters. I do think if I had not already taught my son basic phonics the DVD would be more useful for him. The age range on the box says 4-7 years, but most kids know their basic Kindergarten level phonics by 7 so I would say more like 3-6 years. Also a feature to prevent children from moving on to a higher level in a particular lesson would be great. I don't want my child to go to level 2 of something until he can pass level 1. This program comes with 2 learning CD ROMS and one 30 minute DVD and is well worth the money paid for it. I will be ordering more Reader Rabbit software in the near future. The software also comes with a cute little sticker chart to use to help chart goals... not something we will use but others might find it useful. Comes with a little sticker chart to use for meeting goals.

Good, but ages listed may be too broad Apr 10, 2009
By Laura S. My son just turned six, from the description I thought this would be a good fit for his skills. Some of the games are a good fit, but the included DVD is way too young for him--more for 3 or 4 year olds. Otherwise, the CD learning games seem to be pretty good. We have many Reader Rabbit CD games and know our kids are learning while playing.

This really is not a very good program. It really is not a "game". My granddaughter is no star at reading or spelling, but this program is too easy for her.
