Good software - sort of Vista compatible Apr 26, 2008

First, the bad.
While the box does say this software is compatibile with Vista, it's only sort of compatibile. When you run the software, it pops up a warning message that it is NOT compatible with "your operating system". It seems to run OK but it does change a few color settings. Here's how I fixed this: Once the software is installed, right click on the program icon (the shortcut is fine). Pick the Compatibity tab. Select "Windows 2000" from the drop down menu and select "Disable Desktop Composition" from the list. So far, this has worked for me. NOTE: So far I've only installed and used Reader Rabbit Toddler. I don't know if this works for the other 3 disks.
The software insists on running from the CD. This makes it run slowly - with long pauses as it loads the necessary stuff. Since this software is made for toddlers - little people known for having NO patience - these pauses are compeletly unaccecptable. Here's how I fixed this: I copied all the files on the CD to a new foler on my hard drive. I used these files to install the software. So far, I haven't needed the CD and the software runs just fine. The annoying pauses are gone and it's much easier to show things to my toddler.
Now the good. In addition to the 4 titles listed, the software comes with Reader Rabbit Playtime For Baby. It's included on the Toddler CD. The "main menu" and the games for this software are simpler so it's easier for toddlers to figure out what's going on when they first start trying to use the computer.
Today was the first time I showed the software to my toddler (20 months old). We took a brief tour and I showed her a couple of the games. She stayed and played the entire time and asked for "more" when I closed the program. Not bad for considering how short her attention span can be!
Despite the problems, I think this software will be great. It will help her learn basic computer skills as well as basic concepts.

this package last long time for 2-5 years old!! Nov 18, 2009
By HappyMom There are 4 softwares in this package and it's for 2-5 years old. My daughter has this package when she was 2...6 month ago. She could do/play a lot with these softwares. Some are too advanced (like reading and spelling)for her now, but she loves to clicking and checking around. I got her a mini travel mouse that fits her hand perfectly and she has no problem clicking around to use the computer just like us. so fun and educational too. I'm now searching for other educational PC games for her. Great price/value for my daughter that I know she could use this game for long time.

Good value Jul 16, 2009

I have only made it most, but not all the way through the myriad activities in Reader Rabbit Toddler. This package offers 3 other discs no doubt with many activities as well. The graphics and sound on these programs are superior to a lot of web-based freebies and other toddler-aged CD's. At less than $20, this is a good value for everything you get. It does indeed not properly identify Vista, but I have not had any trouble on Vista 64 bit. The screen resolution is much lower than what is native on my system, but the software and OS seem to handle resizing its lower resolution graphics automatically (it changes the video mode on the fly).
Great for my toddler Sep 27, 2009
By Julie Mills I have a 2 1/2 year old that loves to play on the computer. He is learning to use the mouse and this game really help. Parts of Sammy Science are hard for him to do alone so my husband or I have to help him. I recommend these games for anyone wanting to teach their child how to learn in a fun way.
We love Reader Rabbit Aug 09, 2009
By J. Vannoy I've used Reader Rabbit games for both children. We all enjoy Reader Rabbit over other children's software. The games are simple and educational. They're not flashy, overstimulating or junk disguised as "educational". The games in this package could be used for a wide range of ages from 1 (with a parent) to 6 which makes it very cost effective.
