Something Old, Somethings New! Feb 23, 2010
By John Owens
"CoolBreeze"
The XRS 9845 continues the strong Cobra tradition of excellent sensitivity to speed detection, which is, after all, why we really buy these things. The combined audible/visible alerts are instantaneous and clear, and the Voice Alert feature removes the need to memorize which alert tone goes with which band... no small consideration when you're dealing with 15 bands. Of the six Cobra detectors that I have now owned, this unit's IntelliShield feature makes it the absolute best at blocking spurious alerts from "leaky" detectors in nearby cars as well as from things like automatic door openers and cell phone towers. Thanks to the on-screen/voice prompts and the well-done owner's manual, customizing the programmable features is a snap. I love loud music on my Bose system when I'm in the car alone, and I could have used a note in the advertising about the decibel level of alerts at full volume. My primary problem with radar detectors has historically been difficulty seeing the display when bright sunlight was washing over it, but the blue ExtremeBright graphics on the XRS 9845 have resolved this for me.

Full featured without the full price Mar 26, 2011
By Lawrence S. Mitchell I was skeptical in purchasing a less than a 300 dollar Escort. I have the 8500 Escort and after 10 years of faithful service is displayed "service required". I had the option of paying 80 dollars to get this fix, but granted, I was getting a 10 year detector. I am what you call a consumer advocate and always do extensive research on all the products I buy and after extensive research, settled on this. Well, after just one day, I was "POP"ed, KA, and one other that I can't recall at this time. I have a SC400 that to tell you the truth, am always going over the speed limit. I haven't received a ticket in 30 years and have always had the most expensive radar detector, but to tell you the truth, this is a full featured radar detector and I couldn't be happier with this choice. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants all the features, without paying the full price. I hope this helps. I am very, very pleased with the ease of setup. FORGET the manual, use it for only as a reference as the on screen menus are so user friendly that I just turned the unit on and went through the menus. It couldn't be any easier. Good luck in your decision and hope that this helps with those who are interested in purchasing a less than the most expensive unit out there. PEACE~

Uncertain... May 31, 2011
By Nicole Welch We've never owned a radar detector before since we always assumed it would make us "lazy" drivers. The first weekend we used it for a road trip, I got a ticket. Although this model seemed to catch most cops we passed, the ones on Hwy. 59 in Cleveland/Shepherd, Texas evidently used a lasar type/mode not detected.
It quickly attaches to dash, has an adjustable volume (great for when the kiddo naps), and it overall very easy to use. We got it hidden before the cop made it to our car (LOL).

Cobra XRS 9845 Apr 23, 2011
By Hornet Great little unit for the price. Paid for itself in a couple days. Get a lot of alerts, not sure all are valid but would prefer 1,000 false than to miss one valid - California has gone nuts. Last ticket before I bought this was for 5mph over in San Louis County and it cost about $300 without traffic school. Be warned, here in Ca the CHP seldom drive with radar on so you don't get much warning in most circumstances just a persistent "POP", then you hope he shot the guy down the road.
