The ring that they go on is really large. It kind of flops around on the Safari Vest. It also does not seem to be a strong ring. The whistle is very quiet, which to me is a plus! I would get a really metal ring to put the tools on. My grandson loved this tool set.

I purchase this set for my son's 4th birthday along with a few other of the Backyard Safari accessaries and an excavation kit (T Rex). Its nice and light with no sharp edges. That said the whistle doesn't work but everything else does.

I purchased this for my nephew's birthday, he immediately was ready to go outside and play with these (and blew the whistle pretty much constantly for 4 hours.)
The only warning I would give purchasers is that children obviously do want to take the pieces off the large carabiner, and the smaller pieces can get lost. (My nephew has already misplaced the whistle, though he may have had a little help from his father in that department)
The magnet probe was also much weaker than I expected, its strong enough to pick up a paper clip, but that's about it.
