Good machine May 08, 2010
By LimeyLe I bought this machine at a big box retailer and I think it is worth what I paid for it which was 19.99. You can use your normal ice cubes (from the fridge or from trays) but it works best w/ the mold they give you, assuming you prefer a very very fine texture. The only bummer is that you only get 2 molds with the machine=( I do like that you don't have to use the snow cone holder and you can just place a cup or small bowl under the machine to save money on snow cone holders! I have only used this for one month about 2x a week and so far so good but we will see how long it lasts based on the the previous review. As a side note I have also tried this machine w/ frozen milk, soda and juice and it still works well. Have fun!

At beginning, it was great but it worn out by 4 months later Mar 12, 2010
By J. Johnson I bought it at Target last May. I used it a lot for my family. My family loved to eat snow cone during summer. It worked very well at the beginning. By 4th month, this machine became worn out and it did not crush ice very well. So I have to search different ice shaver before this summer. So if you use this very often, I don't recommend to buy this. This machine is good for seldom times, not often times.

Great Machine! Jan 28, 2011
By C. Piccoli We got this snow cone maker for Christmas, and my kids LOVE it. We use is almost on a daily basis and it works great. I know others have had problems, but so far I have no complaints. It's easy to use and shaves the ice however you want - from course to very fine.
Also, if you purchase the reusable silicone cups, you won't have to worry about spending money to reorder cups over and over again.
I do recommend this product.

Great for kids & summer afternoons Aug 15, 2011
By J. Veltsos I bought the Back to Basics ice shaver three years ago, during an unusually hot summer, and used it every day. Our use has tapered off to a few times per month for the last two summers, but it still works very well. We use inexpensive 12 or 16 oz cups because they can be washed and reused, the flat bottom makes them steadier when filling, and the kids can rest them on the table when eating. Definitely use the molds--ice cubes didn't work as well and are noisier. When we ran out of syrups, we started freezing Kool-ade, which is great and much cheaper. It is definitely worth the money we spent.

Buyer Beware Jul 12, 2011
By VRWC This did not work out of the box. I should have known as it was a clearance item at Target - $14. The motor is supposed to rotate an "ice grabber" which shaves the ice against a blade. The motor worked but did not rotate the ice grabber. Nothing we did would make it rotate, not even manually. We tried to loosen a screw but that did not work either.
