 Previously undefeated squirrels finally lose Nov 24, 2009

In my thirty years of birding, this is the first feeder that has beaten our previously undefeated squirrels. It really works! However, if you are buying this feeder for entertainment, forget it. What happens is the squirrels will each get on it ONCE! They will proceed to be thrown off and that is it....they will not try it again, because they know the result. If you really are hoping to see more, you might try having the battery alternate in off/on mode so the squirrels will be confused, but I doubt they will come back.

The only way this thing will be squirrel-proof is if it's freely suspended. We have ours hung from an inverted- J-shaped stanchion that's stuck into the lawn, and one squirrel has already learned how to defeat it: he climbs the stanchion and holds onto it with his rear feet, holds the rotating "flipper" with one of his front feet and grabs seeds with the other front foot. He's strong enough to keep the flipper from spinning even when it has a freshly charged battery. Other than that, the unit is of very high quality, heavy gauge, well-made and with a serious lithium-ion battery.

While I realize that the price, even for a used feeder, seemed very low, I was shocked when the shipment notification said it was nothing more than a video. I had previously purchased the The Yankee Flipper and this video came FREE with the feeder. Fool me once, but certainly not again!"

This item was listed with The Droll Yankee Flipper as used, which I of course assumed was a used bird feeder. While I realize that the price, even for a used feeder, seemed very low, I was shocked when the shipment notification said it was nothing more than a video. I had previously purchased the The Yankee Flipper and this video came FREE with the feeder. Fool me once, but certainly not again!
