Good concept, poor actualization Oct 05, 2010

As much as I would like to enjoy this game, I was tremendously disappointed in the result. My first gripe is the awful load time. If it were a just a file as opposed to being on disc, then that issue wouldn't exist. Next and the main issue is the controls. Such a convoluted system that is in need of some serious re-visioning. The controls are not intuitive and more often than not I have found myself looking one way while wanting to shoot another. The story is lost in the games dialog, too much mumbling to be really understood clearly. While it's nice to see all the gang back together and playing out our favorite scenes from the movies, it's just not worth playing due to the glaring trouble spots. I'm still going to play it till the end, but frustration lurks around every corner. okay, that being said, I do like the destructive environment, that's a lot of fun. Blowing stuff up and watching the bill rise is a neat touch.
I wanted to give this game five stars, but I just can't.

I'm a HUGE Ghostbusters fan. But like any huge fan, I DO believe there's a right AND a wrong way to make a Ghostbusters game. When it was released on the NES, it was an epic failure. I only got into it because at the time I played it, I had no life. On top of the fact that it's an endless chase-and-catch which gets you nowhere, it wasn't much of a "game" either. But I digress, anyways. The PSP game took the things that made the movies great - the visuals, mostly - and incorporated them into the game.
The coolest thing about this game (especially the PSP version) is the fact that you are encouraged to take part in the destruction of property. After all, isn't being a Ghostbuster about blowing stuff up? On top of this, you get SCORED for blowing things up and shooting all kinds of objects. You even get to catch ghosts in a museum, making it easy to hit the 100,000+ mark on destruction of property! Yay!
The even better thing is the ghost-catching system. They improved over previous versions. Unlike the Sega Genesis Ghostbusters in which you shoot them and they die, or the NES version where you have a ridiculously short stream for the gun and the other Ghostbuster gets in the way, this time they made it look and feel like the movies. Except that crossing the streams doesn't kill you, it only knocks you down. The beams are fired at a ghost, and once the specter is weak enough, you slam it around using the directional buttons. Once you give her a good slamming, throw your trap down and guide them into it. It's really fun, and due to the fact that you can optionally play levels over and over, it makes for a very fun time--You can even take cues from the movie, like capturing Slimer and fighting Stay Puft!
This game doesn't follow the first or second movies, but appears to actually be a third movie. The dialogue is nice and all of the four Ghostbusters are present - Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. The audio is a tad low, but the jokes are spread evenly, unlike the movie where a wise remark would usually come from Peter and sometimes Egon. In short, the game is Ghostbusters 3 in every way.
The only complaint I have is that the PSP version was given the "cartoon" graphics, meaning deformed versions of all of the characters. Not to worry, the gameplay is identical and the fact that you see the Proton Pack in such detail throughout the entire game is a blessing. You don't get to drive the Ecto-1, but who cares? The Nintendo DS is overrated anyway. So if you love Ghostbusters, action games or you straight-up just own a PSP and don't even care what Ghostbusters is, buy this game and enjoy. I got mine from the PlayStation Store, and it's worth the $30 I spent for it. I can't put it down!
ghostbuster video game - great for kids Apr 13, 2011
By Grandma to 2 cuties Great buy at great price. Just what I expected, but then I knew exactly what I was buying. My grandson has played this before. He is 5 years old and grasped it quickly. Next to Lego Batman, it rates equally highly! There are no complaints at all on this .... A++
Hilarious and FUN Sep 30, 2010
By The Remedy The controls were a titch hard to get used to, but didn't take long. I actually slowed down the speed of the crosshairs and that did the trick for controlling my character.
The game is hilarious. There are so many jokes that are subtle. Its highly entertaining that the more damage you cause, the better your score. LOVE IT! The storyline is great, and overall entertaining.
I would definitely give this a 5 star because of the entertainment value. I got the game used for 8$ at Gamestop and glad I did. If you're looking for a good laugh and a fun time busting ghosts, look no further!

My wife bought this game yesterday for herself since she and I are both fans of the show and we both enjoy videogames. Well I got to play this last night for a few hours. I had only meant to play for a few minutes to make sure the game was in proper working order before I went to sleep. Well 2 hrs later I put the game down! =) Controls aren't the best and take a little getting used to and graphics need some major improvement, but the music and environment in the game is spot on as well as the original voices of the cast from the movies. Once you look past the control issue (can't change the button layout unfortunately) and the subpar graphics, this game is major fun for us Ghostbuster fans! So if you are cool with all that, you will more than likely enjoy this game like I am.
