bedbug bomber May 14, 2011
By Olbarn Purchased this with the food grade DE for killing bedbugs. This duster does a good job but takes a little practice to get what you want. What worked best for DE was to not overfill the unit and tip the duster back so the powder is not covering all of the little holes in the base and just tap the top like hitting a bongo drum. The DE powder is so fine that you want to get a lot of air to disperse it.

Keep Your Powder Very Dry Jul 25, 2010

The pest pistol works fine in low humidity. It has been so hot and humid here in Texas we have not been able to use it. As soon as we fill it up and start using it, we are clogged. It is a good product, but not for every situation.

Requires Skill Jan 18, 2011
By Windy Curtains Looks like it'll last a lifetime. Easy to fill, carry and maneuver. So far it hasn't clogged or malfunctioned; it's hard to imagine clogs or malfunctions ever being an issue with this duster. I've had difficulty with getting either too much or too little dust coming out. The directions for a fine spray result in way too little dust. Broadcasting lots of dust is easy, but it's hard to get that thin but visible (barely visible) coat that is normally desired. This improved a lot as I used and got used to it, but learning is limited because you only use it so much and then you're done. I ended up with a very nice dust treatment in most places but more than I wanted on maybe 20% of what I treated. Often I'd get a really nice thin coat but with a very thick region in the center square centimeter or so. I've read that battery-operated dusters work better. I'm sure a well-designed electric duster would allow for much more precise control of the quantity of dust coming out--but I haven't seen any of those designs.
The size of the duster is perfect. It's easy to get small spots or to broadcast over large areas (but again, it's difficult to control the quantity of dust). A finer, tiny duster would probably be too labor-intensive.
I used this for diatomaceous earth. You really need to use a duster when applying diatomaceous earth; otherwise you'll probably do a very lousy job. Even with the duster and a nominal dust mask, you will breathe some dust while applying. But since the dust doesn't degrade, you apply it very rarely.
